Do I have to register my animal with NCPA?
No. However if you do register your animal with us, it is for life and means there are extra classes you can enter at our shows, a free annual points scheme and also special register rosettes to win.
I got given a qualification card for NCPA what do I do next?
In order to enter the Pony of the Year Show, the exhibitor must be a current member of NCPA. Single adult membership is £30 and for children riding you need a family membership, which is £40.
Do I have to join within 7 days?
No, you can join at any time you like, as long as you are a member before the close of entries for the Pony of the Year Show. However, the earlier in the year you join, the more you will benefit from reduced rate entry fees, training clinics etc.
I have a horse not a pony so have I been given the qualification card by mistake?
No. The Northern Counties Pony Association has classes for every type of show animals from Shetlands to Heavyweight Hunters. There are In Hand, Ridden & WHP classes for every type of animal at most of our shows, and also at the Pony of the Year Show.
I am too old for the height of pony that I own, is there anything that I can do at the Northern Counties Pony Association?
Most shows have Mountain & Moorland classes with open age limits (apart from lead rein, first ridden & junior ridden) The NCPA registered classes for other types of animals are also open to any age riders, provided they are a suitable size for the animal. We also run various Part Bred Arab, Part Bred Welsh and ridden competition classes, that do not have rider age limits.
Most SP, SHP & WHP classes have no age of rider limit at POYS Championship Show
Do you run any training clinics?
Yes some branches run clinics, and the main organisation holds at least ONE clinic in the Spring, when further training bursary is offered.
